I have to say I love the fact that the default engineer in #SFF these days is just Kaylee Frye. We see it in The Outer Worlds. We see it in Becky Chambers& #39; books. Even Star Trek Discovery did it. The book I just started reading is doing it too. It just makes me really happy.

And it& #39;s not that these characters aren& #39;t still their own characters either. I mean these characters are very different from each other let alone all being exact copies of Kaylee. But you can see the influence. #SFF

I don& #39;t know. I for one am here for our new quirky, optimistic space engineer overlords. Like this is definitely a trope I& #39;m all for. It& #39;s just an interesting dynamic I& #39;ve been noticing in #SFF that& #39;s come out in the last five or so years.

Like for a while the character archetypes from Firefly that were influencing people seemed to be Mal and River. And not that there& #39;s not still that out there. But there& #39;s been a noticeable shift. #SFF
