On April 7, the standing committee of the NBWL met less for the purpose of protecting wildlife and more for the opposite.

The single largest diversion involved is 768 ha for the Lakwar Vyasi hydro project in Uttarakhand, the NBWL approved this project with only two conditions based on recommendations of the CWLW Rajiv Bhartari: no activity during the night and construction of speed breakers.
The ’eminent’ ecologists in NBWL are H.S. Singh and R Sukumar, of IISC and a trustee of the Wildlife Trust of India. Minutes of the meeting don’t have any indication that either of them objected to the board’s misuse of power
