Question 1, from host @dviyer: what is the impact of COVID19 on communities of color?
@JudithLeBlanc of @NativeOrganizer: Lack of data collection and resources in the native community results in further despair during this crisis.
Native deaths from COVID19 16% in Arizona.

Q1. @Aarti_Kohli : Scapegoating has resulted in increase violence against Asians and Asian business, similar to post-9/11 in Mideastern and South Asian peoples.

Linda Cambell of Detroit People’s Platform:
Detroit is 10% of MI population, has 26% death from COVID-19. Post-bankruptcy saw cuts in services. Economic Strategy heavily focused on leisure & hospitality, not community strengthening. Mass water shutoffs in effort to collect debt

Q2. How are community-based organization shifting their work in the wake of the crisis? What do you need from government, philantrophy, and policymakers? How has organizing shifted?

Claudia Medina from @EnlaceNM: Contacted clients one-on-one to share information on ongoing services. Many lack efficient technology. Org had to adapt to using online platforms used by clients. Provided gift cards, rental assistants for families. #COVIDInOurCommunities

. @Aarti_Kohli : State agencies are overburdened. Communication is important. We need long term investment. We (community service agencies) are essential. #COVIDInOurCommunities

Linda of @DetroitPeoples : We need gov transparency. Lots of decisions are being made about post-COVID. Gov/Orgs open comm., open meeting law compliance. How CARES will be allocated to community. Rebuilding social infrastructure, more resilient community.

. @judithleblanc: This crisis highlights a digital divide and pushed Native community to adapt. Traditional teaching shows that science and culture run parallel. Times like these they intersect. Culture and values moves us forward.
